Assistant Clinical Lead – Orthotics – Roehampton

We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Orthotist to take the next steps in their career joining the team in Roehampton as an Assistant Clinical Lead.

Reporting to the Clinical lead, the successful candidate will supervise, coach, and mentor clinicians and colleagues, contributing to staff development and team performance. Working alongside a large team of clinicians, the role will involve working with a complex clinical case load and will be instrumental in developing and implementing service improvements for patients.

The department provides inpatient, outpatient and community orthotic care for a wide variety of patients. There is a complex mix of adult and paediatric Multi-disciplinary Teams (MDT’s) and extended practice clinics which provide a great opportunity to be exposed to interesting and varied caseloads.

We aim to deliver a first-class service for users whilst applying the most advanced clinical and technical solutions available for the betterment of patients in Roehampton and the surrounding areas.

The role involves supporting service delivery and development, contributing to business planning, quality improvement, and the implementation of clinical governance processes to ensure alignment with organisational goals and patient needs. This includes supporting the Clinical Lead and Operations Manager to embed a standardised clinical approach, across the team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Clinical Lead and Operations Manager in the delivery, development, and continuous improvement of clinical services, ensuring high standards of patient care.
  • Supervise clinical colleagues, and students, and provide coaching, mentorship, and constructive feedback to support professional development.
  • Support the Clinical Lead and Operations Manager with workforce and service planning by providing clinical insight that informs strategic priorities, ensuring that staffing, resources, and service models align with both patient needs and organisational objectives.
  • Exercise sound judgement in day-to-day decision-making, balancing individual patient care with service delivery requirements and organisational targets, and adapting quickly when urgent reprioritisation is required.
  • Support the Clinical Lead and Operations Manager with operational planning, rostering, and resource allocation to maximise efficiency and meet KPIs both individually and as a team.
  • Deliver high-level clinical care while supporting the team to maintain and develop practical skills in line with prescription guidelines.
  • Assist with financial planning, forecasting, budget awareness, and cost-effectiveness, including stock monitoring, audits, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Provides clinically effective, evidence-based care while supporting the team to maintain quality standards and supporting the Clinical Lead and Operations Manager to embed these within the team.
  • Proactively lead and support research, audit, and service improvement projects, promoting innovation and evidence-based practice.
  • Support the Clinical Lead and Operations Manager in overseeing data quality, clinical governance compliance, and effective communication across the team and with external partners.
  • Represent the service at organisational meetings and in external partnerships, maintaining strong collaborative relationships.

 

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Strong clinical experience within prosthetics and commitment to the highest standard of patient care, with experience in MDT environments.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritise, plan, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven experience of working effectively within a team environment with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate team members.
  • Evidence of involvement in service development or improvement projects and implementation.
  • Skilled in communicating complex information to diverse patient groups, including children and individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Ability to work flexibly, balancing clinical and assigned operational priorities.
  • Fully proficient with Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

 

Desirable:

  • Sound working knowledge of REHAPP.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM systems.
  • Familiarity of Power BI and advanced Excel.
  • Previous involvement in research, service development, or quality improvement.

 

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • BSc (Hons) in Prosthetics and Orthotics or equivalent
  • HCPC registration

 

Desirable:

  • Full driving licence
  • Relevant MSc, or postgraduate qualifications in a clinical area.
  • Practice educator training
  • BAPO member
  • ISPO member
