Plantar Callous

What is Plantar Callous?

Excess pressure or friction affecting a specific area on the foot, often on the ball of the foot or on the side of the big toe. Can be an indication of poor foot mechanics and is often associated with conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, over pronation, Pes Cavus.

Symptoms

Thickened hard skin on the bottom of the foot which may be painful to walk on.

Treatments

• Off loading insole with cushioned base material to redistribute pressure under the foot.

Functional Foot Orthotic to realign foot and improve biomechanics. This will assist in reducing the excess forces at the ball of the foot associated with over pronation.
