Working at Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace London. The Guys & St Thomas Rehabilitation Centre located on Bowley Close which is adjacent to a major bus terminus and the overground Southern Train Line serviced by the Crystal Palace and Gipsy Hill stations. The centre is a free-standing building in a residential suburb with a closely located high street containing shops and restaurants. There is a multidisciplinary NHS team providing Orthotic, Counselling and Wheelchair services in addition to the Opcare Prosthetics operation. Opcare provides the Prosthetic clinical service as well as a workshop which fabricates both the prosthetic limbs as well as orthotic devices. You will be part of a close knit 16-member team rendering these services.

Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a Prosthetic Technician who is looking for an opportunity to be develop their career and be a part of our large and dynamic team in Crystal Palace.  Full on the job training will be given but experience in using hand tools and a desire to create bespoke products would be highly beneficial.

Key Responsibilities:

Some of the key responsibilities the role holder will have responsibility for:

  • Assembly / building of medical devices as required by the clinicians in Crystal Palace according to the requirements of the prescription, specification or works order.
  • Ensure devices issued to patients are functioning satisfactorily and provided in a timely manner.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Able to prioritise, plan and organise efficiently and work with multiple conflicting priorities.
  • Self-motivated and uses initiative.
  • Attitude of continuous improvement and the desire to learn new skills
  • Remains calm under pressure.
  • Flexible working style.
  • Have full DBS clearance.

The role will be instrumental in helping to support the clinicians to provide patients with prosthetic limbs.

The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and busy team, and be supported with local, regional, and national training to develop their technical skills to support the service. We aim to deliver a first class service for users whilst applying the most advanced and exciting clinical and technical solutions available to patients.

Qualifications:

  • Good hand skills.
  • Technical understanding of device functions desirable.
  • Confident in working with hand tools
