Opcare have been providing the prosthetic service in Roehampton since 2008 and have recently been re-awarded the contract, this role is an excellent opportunity to have a key influence within the service to advance and improve the delivery of service.

The Prosthetic Department is based in the Douglas Bader Rehabilitation Centre within Queen Mary’s Hospital, where we provide inpatient and outpatient prosthetic care for a wide variety of patients. There is a complex mix of upper and lower limb patient caseloads including multiple limb loss, congenital limb builds and paediatric provision – which provides a great opportunity to be exposed to interesting and varied clinics. Our wider MDT colleagues include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, rehabilitation consultants, nursing staff, psychologist, social work and onsite gait lab team.

All prosthetic manufacture is completed by our skilled technicians onsite which provides a collaborative working approach to device design and manufacture. Including clinics run by clinical support technicians.

 

Job Summary:

We are currently seeking an experienced Prosthetist who is looking for an opportunity to develop their career and be a part of our large and dynamic team in Roehampton.

The role will involve working with a complex clinical case load and therefore clinical expertise in at least one area of prosthetics is essential, but there will also be opportunities to develop into different specialities. The role holder will be instrumental in working with the prosthetic team, consisting of clinicians, technicians, and wider NHS MDT to advance and improve the delivery of the service.

The role holder will be an integral member of the senior clinical team and will provide mentoring support to less experienced prosthetists, graduates, and students.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Some of the key responsibilities the role holder will have responsibility for:

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality care for all patients and the smooth running of the service.
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams (MDT’s) across Queen Mary’s Hospital and the wider Trust including Surgeons and Consultants.
  • To have an area of specialist prosthetic practise and interest, preferably upper limb, osseointegration and complex limb builds.
  • Share your knowledge and experience with junior colleagues and offer mentorship to graduates and students.
  • Help coordinate and contribute to in-service training sessions.

The role holder will be a specialised Prosthetist that can support development and service improvements for the betterment of patients in Queen Mary’s and St Georges Hospitals.

The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and busy team, and be supported with local, regional, and national training to develop their clinical skills to support the service. We aim to deliver a first class service for users whilst applying the most advanced and exciting clinical and technical solutions available to patients.

 

Qualifications:

Either:

  • BSc Prosthetics and Orthotics
  • Certified Prosthetist
  • HND Prosthetics

Must also be fully HCPC Registered.
